Feb 11 – GREETINGS FROM BRISBANE!
We have made it to Brisbane in one piece after losing a day during a 10-hour, 5,000-mile flight from Honolulu. We virtually skipped from Feb 9 to Feb 11. Vagaries of global travel! 🙂
Brisbane is the first stop on our tour of Australia. A short video clip and some initial photos follow.

And longtime Aussie friend from Sydney welcomed us this morning with this message:
“Welcome to Australia! Sorry I won’t get to see you – I’m off to Europe Fri 20. As I recall you don’t hit Sydney til after then.
Enjoy all! Still a bit warm at end of summer …
“Thanks, Graeme. I just talked to a bloke in a souvenir shop here where Elizabeth bought a hat.
“Are you on holidays?” he asked. “Where are you from?”
“Well, sort of,” I replied. “We have homes in Hawaii and Arizona. But I also used to own a property in Western Australia. So every time I come back to this country, I feel as if half of me is coming home.'”
He smiled appreciatively.
Sorry we will miss you. You’re right, we don’t hit Sydney until Feb 23. Cheers, mate.”
We spent most of the rest of the day touring Brisbane on foot… until it hurt. Literally. Both of us got blisters on our feet. 🙂
Here are come other shots from our today’s walk starting with some panorama shots and the above photo of Elizabeth and one of her past incarnations.
We were surprised to see that the vegetation is just like being back in Hawaii. Amazing…

CYCLONE MARCIA WREAKS HAVOC NINE DAYS LATER
Elizabeth and I were saddened to learn that less than a week after we had toured this beautiful city, Brisbane and other parts of Queensland were hit by two devastating cyclones – Lam and Marcia.
Marcia, which hit Brisbane, was a category five storm whipping up winds of up to 285km/h (178 mph) when it made landfall on Feb 20. It caused tremendous damage across this northern Australian state.
Here are some pictures of what Brisbane and its environs looked like during Marcia’s visit.
