Day 3, Jan 1, 2018 – NEW YEAR’S DAY
OUR ADVENTURES: NEW YEAR’S DAY 2018, Part 1
From Makai (ocean) to Mauka (mountain) and back on same afternoon
What a start of the New Year we have had today on Maui. First, we went for our usual morning walk on the beach.
Then we drove into Kahului (on the other side of the island) so Elizabeth could visit some of her favorite stores at the Kaahumanu Mall (Victoria Secret, for example).
Then we drove on to one of the world’s most famous surfing spots – Ho’okipa Point in our old neighborhood on the North Shore of Maui.

Two different angles befits a Gemini. 🙂
Then we drove through our old neighborhood, including the Rainbow Shower, the name of our former property.
Then after a brief Starbucks pitstop in Pukalani, we drove up Haleakala volcano to another world-famous spot – the Maui Lavender Farm in Kula, elevation of 4,000 ft.
So in about an hour we went from 84F in Kahului to 65F in Kula.
And then we headed back down the mountain and drove straight home to Kihei.

WHAT A WAY TO KICK-START A YEAR!
Now that we are back home in Scottsdale, I have finally had a chance to transfer the pictures and videos from my waterproof camera to the computer. Which included this wonderful experience for Elizabeth: Her first-ever boogie-board run.
For a girl who is scared of water in general (pool included!), and takes 10 minutes to get in even hip-deep into the ocean, this was a terrific way to kick off a new year. It may not seem like much to strong swimmers, but for Elizabeth, this took some courage. Bravo!
No wonder that she rated this as her No. 1 most favorite experience out of dozens of great thrills we had enjoyed during our amazing 11-day vacation on Maui.
It was our first time as tourists in almost 10 years. During the 8+ years we had lived on Maui we were too busy taking care of our 7-acre Rainbow Shower property to do such things.
